The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
