Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell such as this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
