Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande at Film Launch Banned from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted across a fence and touched Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
The individual, 26, was sentenced to over a week in prison for disrupting public order and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told news outlets.
Wen pushed past photographers and rushed toward the celebrity, who was participating in the Asian premier for the film on November 13. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and star-studded occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The incident sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of re-traumatising Grande.
The celebrity has mentioned suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a explosive incident at her concert in the UK city in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 people and affected hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Protection personnel stopped him and restrained him.
He then uploaded video clips appreciating the celebrity for letting him on the carpet and said he was "at liberty."
Authorities arrested him the subsequent day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge Christopher Goh was cited by media reports as remarking that the man sought attention, adding that he was incorrect to think he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not spoken about the situation.
Erivo discussed the event to a media outlet, saying that she "simply desired to ensure my colleague was secure."
"I'm sure he didn't mean us danger, but you cannot be certain with those things, and I sought to make sure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she stated.
