New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”
NYPD issued video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.
The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a child.
“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.
Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while working his way back.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
