Fans Urge Arrest of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are urging that a person who jumped a fence and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the Australian man pushing past photographers and charging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers showed that he was due to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Safety
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further response on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for digital services to block Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on 21 November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the popular stage production Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two contrasting witches.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of last year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, securing several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
