One 60-day voyage circling the Land Down Under was terminated days after the fatal incident of an older woman who was left behind by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back after some time after the crew realised the woman was not present.

A large-scale search operation discovered her remains the next day.

Officials are investigating the incident, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that travelers and crew on the vessel were told that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the liner.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Chronology of Incidents

The ship first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's death. The remote island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Passengers on the ship - who usually pay large sums of currency to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the possibility of hiking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the liner left the location after an scheduled tour without my mum".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic elderly person" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"From the little information we have been informed, it appears that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have done that might have saved Mum's being".

"Based on information from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mother fell ill on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"She was asked her to return, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, reportedly without performing a headcount.

"During some point in that process, or shortly after, mum died, alone."

Organization Response

Via official communication, the Head confirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with investigators to assist their examination".

He mentioned that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship accommodates up to one hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to corporate data. It was purpose-built to reach remote areas of the nation's shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - small boats used to transport individuals on day excursions.

Events like this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have systems to track which travelers are embarking or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship just isn't an possibility," an authority commented.

Shipping companies regard these procedures very seriously and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such incidents from taking place," the expert further stated.
