Brian Eno Encourages Support to Send Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers contributing to Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The song blends a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a specific target,” a representative said. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of property said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The song is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
